POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for overseeing the coordination of Foundation legal education courses as assigned. These may include in-person programs such as two-day special institutes, three- to five-day short courses, and half-day seminars, and virtual programs such as webinars. This position includes working directly with program chairs, program planning committees, speakers, and authors, working with the Associate Director – Programs on course logistics, and some supervision of program staff. This position also includes certifying programs for continuing legal and professional education credit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Attorney’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Deliver Approved Courses and Programs
- Work with program chairs and program committees on the development of approved courses in accordance with Foundation policies and guidelines.
- Work with program chairs, program committees, and speakers to obtain papers and PowerPoint presentations from speakers that address the assigned topics and that meet the Foundation’s standards of quality.
- Work with other staff to organize course manuals of papers and PowerPoint presentations from speakers and ensure timely printing and online dissemination.
- Communicate with speakers to ensure they provide the required submittals.
- Assist with the solicitation of sponsorships for courses that are approved for sponsorships.
- Work on the marketing of courses and programs, including the design, planning, and timing of advertising in coordination with other staff members to ensure alignment with the overall marketing strategies of the Foundation.
- Coordinate setting up web pages for courses and programs, and on designing and developing speaker packets, course manuals, and other materials for programs with appropriate staff.
- Distribute course materials as appropriate electronically and in print.
- Coordinate logistical details for shipping of marketing brochures, program materials, and publications with appropriate staff.
- Respond to questions or requests from program chairs, program committees, speakers, and attendees.
- Manage assigned courses and programs on the ground, including registration, coffee breaks, receptions, chair and speaker introductions, announcements, audio-visual needs, signage, and set-up and tear-down.
- Provide regular supervision of staff working on programs, and coordinate staffing and workloads with the Associate Directors and Executive Director.
- Assist with the collection, retention, management, and reporting of information on courses and programs, including speaker participation and ratings, attendance, and topics.
- Follow up after programs, including thanking speakers and program committees, and finalizing course manuals.
Continuing Legal Education Accreditation
- Manage continuing education requirements for conferences and webinars under the supervision of the Associate Director – Programs.
- Maintain familiarity with continuing education rules of multiple bar associations and continuing education requirements for professional landmen, petroleum and professional accountants, and other certifications that may be required by customers.
- Apply for continuing education accreditation for conferences and courses.
- Advise the Associate Director – Programs as to programming concerns that may be raised by accrediting organizations.
- Report customers’ continuing education credits to multiple state bar associations and other accrediting organizations.
- Submit payment of fees for continuing education credits.
- Prepare and file annual continuing education accreditation applications with multiple state bar associations, professional landman’s associations, professional accountants’ associations, and other organizations as required by customers.
- Respond to customers’ questions regarding continuing education certifications.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide strong support to the Associate Director – Programs and the Executive Director when requested.
- Assist the Associate Director – Programs with general questions related to programs and courses.
- Seek direction from the Associate Director – Programs about allocation of priorities and best use of time as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers.
- Support a positive atmosphere in which high quality programs and services are delivered and where inclusivity is valued.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director – Programs or the Executive Director.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to Mission
- Commitment to the Foundation’s mission with an understanding of the Foundation’s educational goals.
- Interest in natural resource issues and subjects and of different perspectives and concerns that affect those issues and subjects.
Experience and Education
- Minimum three years of law-related experience, which may be at a law firm, corporation, governmental agency, nonprofit, or other organization.
- Legal writing experience.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

- Willingness to regularly travel regionally, nationally, and internationally for courses and meetings as requested.
- Preference for a scholarly interest in natural resources obtained through experience in the industry, the practice of
- law, in academia, or otherwise.
Must be a U.S. citizen and reside in the United States.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and arms to perform repetitive motions; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
